Vallis Gene Thacker, age 78, of Harold, KY., passed from this life, Monday, November 2, 2020. Vallis was born in Pike County, KY., to the late George W. and Lassie Victoria Thacker, on June 5, 1942.
Besides both parents, Vallis is preceded in death by his first wife of forty-two years, Patricia Ann Begley Thacker; siblings, Laura Thacker Cantrell, Fernie Jane Billiter, Michael Thacker, Roger Thacker, and Hibbard Junior Thacker.
Vallis is survived by his wife of nine years, Ginger Burke; children, Angela Thacker Saunders and her husband, Nicholas, Vallis James Thacker; grandchildren, Peyton Saunders, Hunter Saunders, and Angelina Thacker; siblings, Betty Lou Parton and her husband, Tom, Bradley Thacker and his wife, Oralia, Tunis Ray Thacker and his wife, Cathy, Ronnie Thacker and his wife, Lola, Darrell Thacker and his wife, Dewana, and Terry Thacker; brother in law, Larry Cantrell; sister in law, Marketti Thacker.
Vallis was a Sergeant First Class veteran, where he served in the Army for twenty-three years. Vallis’s experience in the Army played a key role in his life. He frequently pointed out what the Army taught him the value of self-restraint, communication, and investing in a cause larger than himself.
Vallis was a husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. Vallis will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
The family will accept friends at Thacker Memorial Funeral Home, Wednesday, November 4, 2020 from 6:00 PM to 10:00 PM and Thursday, November 5, 2020 with open visitation till 10:00 PM. There will be services nightly at 7:00 PM. Funeral services for Vallis will be Friday, November 6, 2020, at 1:00 PM, with DAV Rites conducted by the Johns Creek Chapter #166 at the funeral home chapel. Burial will follow at Annie E. Young Cemetery in Pikeville, KY., with procession being led by Rolling Thunder and a final salute conducted by the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Estill Reed and Carl Sargent will officiate all services for Vallis.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Thacker Memorial Funeral Home.
